Dave Bass

After serving four years in the US Coast Guard as a sonarman, he graduated with a BA from Bridgewater College in Virginia.  He worked at several positions in property and casualty insurance and corporate risk management. He retired in 1999 and move to Hendersonville in 2002.  David has volunteered with the Hendersonville symphony in fundraising. He has volunteered with several activities at First United Methodist including Joseph's Outreach Ministry and the Walk to Emmaus.

Jim Nelson

A native of Pennsylvania, Jim received a BA degree from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York.  He and his wife Jane relocated to Hendersonville in June, 2015.  Jim retired from the property and casualty insurance industry after 38 years in marketing and management.  He has served as a board member for non-profit organizations in Lutz, Florida (Christian Social Services) and in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina (Southern Wake Faith Community in Action), serving as board chair at the latter in 2013 and 2014.  He and his wife are active members of Grace Lutheran Church in Hendersonville. 

Vice President

Pat Miller

Pat grew up in the Atlanta area, but has spent most of her adult life in North Carolina. She received her BA in education and her MEd in reading from Clemson University. She also earned a BS in accounting from UNCC. Pat taught middle school math for twenty years, before retiring in 2015. Her last eight years of teaching were here in Henderson County at Apple Valley Middle School. Pat and her husband moved to Mills River in 2006 and feel this was the best decision they have ever made. Since retiring, Pat serves as a volunteer at the Henderson County Public Library and the Pardee Cancer Center.  Pat is a member of Grace Blue Ridge Community Church, and is part of the Local Missions team there. She and her husband Bill enjoy hiking, camping and enjoying this beautiful area we live in.

Kelly Hart

Kelly Hart is a proud alum of Clemson University with a BA in Psychology.  After three years of service in Rwanda teaching at an international school and working with individuals orphaned by the 1994 Genocide, she returned Stateside and received her MA in Counseling from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.  Kelly has over 10 years of experience working in social services in the nonprofit sector.  She has worked with people of all ages at an outdoor education center, an international school, a career center, a residential mental health facility, and currently serves as Program Support Specialist at Smart Start Partnership for Children, a local early childhood nonprofit.  Kelly and her husband David enjoy spending time outdoors, traveling, eating good food, and reading good books.  They have been foster parenting in Henderson County since 2016

Secretary

John Rapp

John Rapp received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology.  He spent 44 years engineering, designing and constructing nuclear power plants around the world and the last 10 years as a Project Engineering Manager for nuclear power plant upgrade/retrofit projects.  He moved to Laurel Park in 2005 and retired there in 2013 with his wife, two dogs and two cats.   After retiring he has volunteered as a member of the Trauma Intervention Program in Henderson County.  Presently he is the chairman of the “Finance & Facilities” Team as well as a member of the “Mission” Team at Providence Baptist Church where he is a member.  

David Lambert

After graduating from West Point Dave was an officer in the Air Force for 22 years.  He earned a masters in business from the Air Force Institute Technology.  He served in several technology systems development positions as well as ROTC professor at University of California at Berkeley. After retiring from the Air Force he worked as a Program Manager for communications systems development for technology companies.  Dave served as the business manager for Homes For Youth, Inc.  since its founding in 2014.  He joined the board in 2019.

Dick Kauffold

Dick Kauffold is a retired naval officer and management consultant, who holds a BS degree in mathematics from the University of Nebraska and an MS in Computer Science from the Naval Postgraduate School.  During his 20-year career in the USN, Dick served on destroyers and in program management positions overseeing ship overhauls and Navy technology acquisition programs.  Following his Navy retirement in 1990 he worked at the Software Engineering Institute, which is operated by Carnegie Mellon University, and subsequently worked in US-European telecom partnerships as an Information Technology director with Sprint International. After moving to Hendersonville in 1998, Dick began 20 years of independent consulting work, specializing in software quality assurance and other software advisory services for Fortune 500 companies and government agencies in the US and Europe. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra.
